MMA Book Recommendations

*Note: I have listened to all of the books below as audiobooks, but I’ve pointed the links to paperback editions*

This year, I’ve listened to the following two books about the rise of modern jiu-jitsu grappling. For anyone new to the subject, these would provide a great insight into the revolution that has taken place in martial arts in recent decades, sparked by the Gracie family:

Breathe: A Life In Flow – by Rickson Gracie

Worth Defending: How Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Saved My Life – by Richard Bresler

Last year, I particularly enjoyed the autobiography of Britain’s most successful UFC fighter, Michael Bisping. His life story has it all, and I think most people would find it riveting whether or not they have previous knowledge of the UFC:

Quitters Never Win – by Michael Bisping

Also, last year, I continued to enjoy The Combat Codes series. It is unique, as it is a fantasy fiction series with authentic mixed martial arts fighting – the author being a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Edit: it looks like he is currently reworking the books, which is why the original editions may not be available:

The Combat Codes: Volume 1 – by Alexander Darwin
