The planned 5K Parkrun at Cofton Park is great news for runners in south Birmingham / north Bromsgrove, who can now have their own local event, after previously having to travel to Cannon Hill or Arrow Valley.
Parkrun is a community event, held at venues all over the country at 9am every Saturday morning. It allows runners of all abilities to complete the course at their own pace, and have their times recorded efficiently online so that they can chart their progress.
There was already a test launch on 13th Sep, and the latest I’ve read is that the organisers are hoping for a March 2026 start. Future updates should be available on the dedicated Cofton Parkrun Facebook page.
The last time I did a parkrun was at Arrow Valley last autumn, when I ran with a teenage PT client on his first parkrun/5k. Over the years I’ve found parkrun to be a great milestone for clients of all ages to work towards. This has included younger kids that I have trained – they also have the option of the shorter Bromsgrove Junior Parkrun (2k).
It’s very rare for me to do a parkrun for myself these days, seeing as I’ve been specialised in sprinting since 2018. However, I did give it a try in 2022 and was happy that I could still duck under 19 minutes – see results for Feb 19th 2022.
Just for fun, you can also see a video I made in 2017, running the Arrow Valley parkrun with a GoPro on my head!
